A cigarette a-burnin' as I stumble off to bed
   I just might get some sleep if I could get you off my head
   awhile
   I guess it's cause I thought that you would never go away
   And I could come home to you if I'd had one of those days
   that's hard
  
   But it's not quite as easy
   As those old songs used to say
   And when I try to love another
   I can't help but see your face
  
   So I go out everynight and have a couple twenty drinks
   It's easier to feel you know when you don't have to think
   at all
   Lisa tries to help you know and so does Mary Lou
   But they don't give me trouble like the jealous side of you
   would do
  
   But even though you made it easy
   To find a reason to complain
   I never thought that by your leaving
   That you'd have so much to gain
  
   So I'll probably run into you in another month or three
   And you'll be with another who ain't near as cute as me
   and that's good
